We are delighted to invite you to the first  Wellington Based Analytics Forum of 2016, focusing on the realities of being an analyst in a world still adjusting to using analytics, sponsored by  Qrious, based at Bizdojo Wellington.

The Forum will feature three key speakers who have first-hand experience in working with data, and ensuring it is used correctly. They will share their insider view of analytics.

Talks will begin at 5pm with time for catching up and networking before and after.

More details to follow shortly.

Our speakers

Billie Gruschow – Insights Analyst at Trademe

Standing up to confirmation bias.

People love to use data when it’s positive, but it’s a different story when your numbers aren’t what they want to hear, or don’t fully support their angle, agenda or claims. A talk about sticking to your guns as an analyst and why it’s sometimes important to be the bearer of bad news.

Kathryn Greenbrook – Analytics Consultant at Kiwibank, Data and Analytics lead at Five and Dime

Less numbers. More talk.

The ability to produce advanced analytics is nothing new. How companies are consuming the insight is also nothing new. We’re still building churn models, segmenting customers, prioritising customer cross-sell… Is our marketing any more data-driven than it was 5 years ago? And if not, why? Are we restricted in our operational capability, or in our thinking?

Hear about some pet peeves (like vanity metrics!), and some of the less numeric ways Kiwibank is becoming data-driven.

Rosie Read – Previously an analyst at a consulting firm, Rosie is currently in-between roles.

Data Wars
When you start a new analytics project it’s a lot like shipping out to war – people are enthusiastic, the enemy will soon be conquered, it’ll all be over by Christmas. Before you know it, though you’re stuck in the mire making difficult decisions based on imperfect information. All those databases which haven’t been updated for years are suddenly crucial information, you’ve got garbled communication lines, and when things are going wrong there has to be someone to take the responsibility. This talk focuses on working together towards a common goal, even when everything feels like its about to fall apart.
