Kat Greenbrook – Rogue Penguin – Analytics & Design Disciplines to tell Data Stories

Speakers:

Ana-Maria Mocanu, Kantar Insight – “Principles of Good Data Visualisation and Storytelling”

Ana will take you through several guidelines which can help your next data visualisation project, along with examples of what worked (or not) in her previous experience.

Ana is a Data Scientist at Kantar Insight, and works with Colmar Brunton and Kantar TNS to help clients with the data science and big data challenges. She has worked on several visualisation-focused projects in the past, and has a genuine interest (and respect) for good data stories.

Travis Barker, Stellar Consulting  – “Stand for Children – Transforming Lives of NZ’s Most Vulnerable Children through Analytics”

Using the real-world example of Stand for Children, Travis will illustrate how simple analytic techniques and visualisations are being used in NZ’s Not-For-Profit sector to drive meaningful change. In collaboration with Microsoft NZ, Stellar is helping Stand to interrogate its data and highlight areas to focus on in their mission to support NZ’s vulnerable children.

Travis is a founder and Consulting Partner with Stellar. Through Stellar he has focused solely on the design of data & analytic solutions for NZ’s most complex organisations for the past decade.

Kat Greenbrook, Rogue Penguin – “How to combine analytics and design disciplines to tell data stories”

Not all data visualisations should be created equally. Kat will introduce some basic principles of graphic design that you can then apply to enhance your data visualisation storytelling. To prove it’s easily done when you know how, she’ll step through a data viz makeover.

Kat is the founder of Rogue Penguin, a data visualisation agency in Wellington. She has a background in analytical modelling and graphic design. Her focus now is around helping businesses tell their data stories.

The event is free of charge and sponsored by Stellar Consulting.
