Please join us for this first gathering of Optimisation and Business Analytics Professionals in New Zealand. We hope that this will be the first of many gatherings, and help in the formation of a supportive community.

What?

We have an interactive afternoon planned for people who spend their time creating value for their organisations through analytical models and approaches. Over the afternoon, we will

  • Hear from two world class speakers, who will share their experiences of applying optimisation and business analytics across a wide range of industries.
  • Discuss your views on analytics in your organisation and across New Zealand
  • Meet analytics professionals from a range of industries
  • Discuss what kind of future events you would like to participate in with this community

This event is open to anyone who uses analytical models to make decisions in their workplace

Speakers

Paul Reid received a BSc (Hons) in Operations Research from Massey University in 1994. Since 2011, he is Group General Manager Innovation and Technology for New Zealand Post Group. Paul joined New Zealand Post Group from MetService Limited, where he held the position of Chief Executive Officer for four years. Before moving to MetService in 2007, Paul held a variety of senior commercial and operational positions with Air New Zealand, Carter Holt Harvey and Ernst & Young. His experience includes CEO, GGM and GM roles across all aspects of business. Industry experience includes logistics, aviation, forestry, consulting and technology and according to his own words he prefers “working in companies that are facing challenges that will either see them go out of business or grow into the future”.

 

Professor Andy Philpott  obtained his PhD in Operations Research from Cambridge University in 1982 and has been on the University of Auckland Faculty since 1986. His research interests are in stochastic programming and game theory and their application to operations research problems, in particular optimal planning under uncertainty, capacity expansion in telecommunications and power networks, optimal power generation hydro-electric power systems, stochastic optimization in supply chains, and optimal yacht routing under uncertainty. He has worked on many consulting projects with organisations in New Zealand and Australia.
